"War Dates"
"WAR DATES" is an interactive sound installation expressing the deaths of Iraqi civilians under U.S. occupation as individual noises composing larger sound pieces; highlighting how removed we are from the victims of the Iraq war. The sound pieces would be triggered through two electronic calendars whose “dates” would correspond to months that the U.S. has occupied Iraq. These “dates” would be individual buttons that when pressed would carry a signal to a processor that would play a sound piece through two speakers. The bits and blips of sound each represent a single casualty, acknowledged or otherwise (the difference represented by the nature of the sound), so the sound pieces themselves also serve as testament to how little mayhem our ears are privy to.
