"Scar Tissue" is a multi-media performance exploring fear through a feminine lens as the dangerous pursuit of perfection. Juxtaposing the practice of female genital mutilation in Africa and the Middle East, and of plastic surgery in the West, this performance draws from literary and empirical accounts of bodily mutilation for the sake of beauty, perfection, and purity. With jarring intimacy, this piece focuses inward, causing the viewer to question the standards of perfection that are locked deep within our cultural paradigm.
